The day after the night before

So, it's now the day after the night before, and last night was the first 'Soul Medicine'.

Those of you who have been following the blog will know that after the last 'Motown & More', I'd decided that it was time for a change. And with that it meant that the constricting format went out of the window and in would come a new format. One which means that I can play across the Soul genre and not just in specific areas.

So how did the evening go? In all honesty, it was OK for a starter and certainly a night we can build on. I started playing at around 7.45 to an empty room, and by 8 o'clock we had a total of 4 in the room. By 8.30 that had gone up to 6, but by 9.15 it had gone back to 4. To be honest I was wondering what was going on.

Admittedly, there was another event on just up the road with a very successful local DJ playing who has a big following. But I'm a believer that those that want to come will. And they did. But not until 9.30.

All of a sudden we had an influx, and what seemed like it was going to be a nightmare first night, turned into a really good night with plenty of dancing going on.

The best thing about the night was that I now have the freedom to do as I do in my radios shows, and that's to play right across the soul genre. Did I play any Northern and Motown? Yes I did. And a whole lot more besides. So what did I play?

At the end of the evening people were telling me it was a great night, so I can't ask for more in that department. What I need to do now is to work out how to get more people there, and get them there earlier and I'll have it sussed.

Had lots of requests last night which I think helps guide the way to go. So overall I was satisfied, but am now looking how to make it even better.

Till next time...

  1. Keep it up James there's room for more than one night ,it's a big city.
Diversity is to be encouraged .
    More publicity locally may help.
